An important early 'hand-written note' painting. The white ground and the painted round thumbtack head were meant to cite a standard white interior wall; this painting would be an appendage, installed next to a larger painting (Pollock, Keiffer, Rauschenberg, Bleckner, Rosenquist, de Kooning) to serve as a chat-label, 'Look at the Large Paintings'.
