This theme has been repeated over time. Seeing, Looking - are cardinal ideas throughout my paintings. This work was first exhibited in 1991 at 'crude thinking' at MWMWM. Wanting to retain this painting at that period prompted me to create what I called 'synthetics' - meaning illusions of illusions, where this painting as an image was copied on a larger panel with a light grey ground and the image was given a shadow. The Note predates 1991 and appeared as text or paper silhouette in works prior.
