This is how the 'portables series' began: I chose ready-made 10 x 8 stretched canvasses to use in making quick tests (in miniature) for grounds. I was interested in diverging from the previous crisp-lined color areas.

The source is a moody, discarded casual photograph from an art shipper documenting a 'house move': the quick B&W digital image which I saved was only intended as shorthand, referencing an armchair and a single bed that would be part of a later move inventory.

This painting remains important as the seed of the idea that has now resulted in numerous 'portable' paintings.
