the Joel Rosen drawing (Chisako) - black ground from the 1990s
1994 to 2021
acrylic and tape on canvas upon plywood
5-3/8 x 3-1/2 inches
with the 2021 passing of my old friend Ken Aiken (Joel Rosen) I returned to his drawing which I first quoted in a 1991 painting, "Essay: Joel Rosen". The ground was a test of materials that I have had from at least 1994 - the torn wedge of white tape is a small length of white artists tape, now well bonded on the surface; all further bonded under acrylic varnish.
This is part of what I'm playfully calling my 'recast' series - previously the 'transatlantic series' -referring to Mondian and paintings begun elsewhere (e.g. Europe, for Piet) and completed elsewhere (NY for Piet. 2021 Gowanus, Brooklyn for me).
