Roundel
2019
acrylic on canvas
30 x 24 inches

I intended, then searched, photographed and snacked-upon numerous 'chocolate chip cookie' candidates, looking for something unmistakably representative of such a cookie (and not mistaken, for example with Oatmeal, or Peanut Butter types...). The subject emerged from a search for round forms after having painted a view of a moon in the night sky. I had also been admiring a work by Georgio de Chirico that featured images of shortbread cookies in a composition.

Shown start in B&W, the craggy detail often suggest the moon or a moonscape to viewers - which is fine by me.

In the end, purchase of a bag of good old standard 'Chips Ahoy' cookies yielded the best source.

By 2021, I also produced a 10 x 8" variation/version of Roundel for the 'portables series'
